
Music tends to define each generation. The artists and bands of a particular generation are able to express what the generation is all about through words and rhythms. As people get older, the music of their younger years is always special by reminding them of those happy times of youth. Songs can be associated with certain memorable events such as the high school dances, the early dating years or other fun things to remember.
The 1970's
One music era that especially stood out was the music of the 1970’s. The songs from that time provided music for dancing as well as singing along with the artists. Musicians were highly gifted and could play their instruments with the utmost skill.
Special Music Artists
Favorite artists provided many styles of music in the 1970's and they included David Cassidy with the Partridge Family, Barry Manilow singing soft rock, the Bee Gees with the Gibb brothers providing terrific dance tunes, the hard rock sensations of Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin, the brass band of Chicago and the disco sounds from Donna Summer. Many people remember John Travolta in the disco movie Saturday Night Fever. It had great 1970’s songs in it such as “Stayin Alive” and “How Deep Is Your Love” by the Bee Gees.
Early Music Formats
During the 1970’s there were various formats with which to play favorite music. Besides the radio, there was the eight track player that could be installed in cars or carried manually and placed on the dashboard. The cassette player soon became popular because the cassette was much smaller and had better sound quality. It could also be installed in the car. During this time the music was available on vinyl 45rpm records.
1970 Music Played Today
Today, the sounds of the 1970’s are still popular with certain radio stations specifically playing this music. It is also available on today’s improved formats such as CD’s, MP3’s, computer downloads and burning onto your own CD. The vinyl record industry has experienced a new life as records are being sold on the Internet through online stores or by individuals. Some of the artists from the 1970’s are still performing in various cities throughout the United States and in other countries as well.
Music connoisseurs of all age groups will find something they like in the large variety of music from the 1970’s. It was a great time in the world of music history. If you haven’t had the opportunity to listen to some of the songs and artists, it may be a fun thing to do.
